Component 1 - Brief

 

Here is my brief for my Component 1. I have decided to choose the magazine option. 

Reflection: This brief has helped me to organize my project from the very beginning of what should I do as it gives me a sense of direction on making my magazine project, it is also making me more arranged and be more aware of the deadlines as it provides me with motivation because honestly I was kind of startled and horrified with the amount of work I should get done. Moreover, it help me to improve my critical thinking skill of the process of research, planning, and production.

Stuart Hall: Representation theory

 

a. What a representation is?

Hall argued that the original subject has no fixed meaning, and that the media gives meaning to events/people/groups after the occurrence.

b. Meaning 

c. What a stereotype is?
When a representation is repeated is repeated enough in the media, it becomes a stereotype. Stereotype occur in the media due to a lack of diversity in the writing room / production.

d. Why are stereotypes used?
Producer or film maker uses stereotypes in order for the audience to recognize the show more and it makes the audiences to easily conforms or understand.

e. What social groups are represented in this media?

This social groups include gender, age groups, social classes, religion,

Papuan ethnicity

Some media portrays Papuan people as uneducated people and are likely to commit crimes. Moreover, 

the media represents that they lack of resources and also knowledge.

However, in  In some circles, there is a sense of solidarity with the Papuan people. Activists, academics, and individuals who advocate for the rights and welfare of Papuans often highlight the need for inclusivity and fair treatment.
